Mental distress can happen anywhere - in our homes, in our schools, in the workplace and even in public spaces like on the train or in the supermarket. Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a potentially life-saving skill that can certainly prepare any of us to respond to such situation.
PFA is a technique based on the concept of human resilience. Its goal is to restore emotional balance and prevent the development of further psychological scar. This is done by attending to the emotional crisis and reducing its distress reactions. PFA has been endorsed and accepted by international agencies as the recommended basic response in a crisis. It is described by mental health experts as "acute intervention of choice".
